Le prestigieux label anglais Trojan Records rend hommage à Lee Perry en cette fin d'été et pratiquement un an jour pour jour après le décès du Dali jamaïcain.
King Scratch (Musical Masterpieces from the Upsetter Ark-ive) est la nouvelle compilation que sort donc le label, déjà disponible en double CD, double vinyle et coffret de luxe (ici même). Le projet comprend des morceaux extraits de toutes les périodes de la carrière du légendaire artiste, ainsi qu'un livre de 50 pages réalisé par son le biographe officiel de Lee Perry David Katz, illustré par des photos d'Adrian Boot.
A propos de ce très bel objet de collection Mireille Perry, la veuve de Lee Perry déclare : "Ce nouveau coffret des années dorées de Lee montre le génie visionnaire qui l'a poussé à dépasser toutes les frontières créatives et à consolider son statut d'icône culturelle. L'art et la musique de Lee vivront pour toujours".
Le coffret deluxe comprend 109 titres sur quatre vinyles et quatre CD, comprenant ses enregistrements les plus célèbres et les plus influents ainsi que des mixs rares et inédits de différents djs, comme un mix inédit du puissant Police And Thieves de Junior Murvin, le hit britannique de Susan Cadogan Hurt So Good et le classique Return of Django des Upsetters, ainsi que de nombreux autres gros succès.
La collection de 2 LPs et 2 CDs se concentre plutôt sur les productions les plus célèbres de Perry des années 1960 et 1970, interprétées par certains des géants de la musique jamaïcaine.
La vision et le talent de Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry ont eu un impact significatif sur la scène musicale d'aujourd'hui, inspirant bon nombre des plus grands musiciens du monde, parmi lesquels The Prodigy, The Rolling Stones, The Beastie Boys, The Clash et Diplo, qui ont perpétué son son. Cette nouvelle collection rend hommage à une légende dont l'héritage extraordinaire ne sera jamais oublié.
